Dear Editor,
I urge my fellow Fairfield citizens to vote for
John Nelson for First Selectman next month. Since meeting John several months ago, I’ve been extremely impressed with his intelligence, his vision for our town’s future and out-of-the-box thinking that is evident in his campaign platform.
Further evidence of his intelligence and passion for our town was displayed at last week’s League of Women’s voters debate. While First Selectman Ken Flatto took shots at John Nelson, John clearly stated his long-range, strategic plan for Fairfield such as eliminating school portable classrooms and his plan to fight for real change in development. He also reflected on other areas in town that needed to be addressed such as wildly fluctuating taxes, traffic bottlenecks and poor management of town contracts.
I have lived in Fairfield for all of my life, and the drastic changes that have taken place within the last six years have diminished our town’s once cherished character. We can’t let this go on.
John Nelson is a fresh new voice who is a proven, decisive leader. He isn’t a career politician but a citizen advocate who wants to make Fairfield the premier town in Connecticut and won’t settle for the status quo.

To the editor:
I wanted to send this letter to you in support of
Ken Flatto for continuing in his capacity as First Selectman. I have attended the debate and have read numerous letters in the papers and on this website. I believe I have a good knowledge of the issues facing Fairfield. I do not know John Nelson and have only met him briefly. My initial impression of John is that he appears to be a typical, likeable resident of Fairfield.
Rather than bore your readers with a diatribe about the various issues facing Fairfield and the merits of this or that plan, I thought a more personal note might be more insightful. I have worked for Ken now over 18 months. I am not a politician and my background is in the private sector. What I have seen from Ken over this time is someone who is dedicated to the well-being of Fairfield. He deeply cares about the Town and, although we have disagreements from time to time, he always has one thought in mind – what is best for the Town? He works long hours and is always trying to do the right thing for the Town. His honesty is above reproach. I know he has these qualities because I see them every day.
As your readers no doubt realize we have a beautiful, highly rated Town which faces its fair share of issues and challenges. Ken and his administration have served the Town for the past six years through an enormous expansion to our schools, rebuilding of a beautiful library, as well as an expansion of the fire suppression lines, to name only a few projects. There have been no scandals and no improprieties. We should expect that from our elected officials. We have had that with Ken Flatto’s administration.
I know that Ken’s administration is honest and always trying to do the right thing. I hope, without knowing more, that John Nelson, if elected, would meet those same standards. Knowing and hoping are vastly different.
I continue to support Ken Flatto for First Selectman.

To the editor:
I happen to like
John Nelson’s idea for “smart development” in
Fairfield. It’s nice to see that someone has a plan for the future of
Fairfield instead of appointing another “task force” to attack an
issue. Someone with the leadership experience of John Nelson is just
what this town needs to realize its true potential on the coast of
Connecticut. John’s idea of actually making a decision instead of
appointing a committee to due such is exactly what this town needs. On
November 6th I encourage each and every Fairfielder to vote for John
Nelson and true leadership.
Sincerely,
Amanda Parks
To the editor:
I recently took advantage of the weekly lunches that
John Nelson is holding on Sherman Green on Fridays and I must admit, he made some excellent points. His idea of “scratching the surface” about town issues really hit home with me. While Ken Flatto and his administration are puffing their chests about their “accomplishments”, John made me realize that a strong leader would have done even more for Fairfield. John’s ideas of smart, planned out development are needed for this town. While Ken allows every special interest political action committee to assert their agenda on his policies, John will stand up for what is right for Fairfield as an entire town, not just a select group of neighborhoods. John convinced me on Friday not just to vote, but to let my voice be heard in the newspaper, and I encourage you to do the same.
Sincerely,

To the editor,
After attending the Fairfield League of Woman’s Voters Debate I think it is abundantly clear who the fitting candidates are to lead Fairfield’s future.
John Nelson and Ralph Bowley proved that their vision for the future prosperity of this town is laid out in reason and planning, while the current administration is hiding from what only be described as six years of wavering and caving to special interest groups and friendly campaign contributing developers without keeping the overall welfare of the town in mind. After six years, Fairfield’s children are still learning in trailers, the traffic situation has worsened ten-fold and parking is deplorable. The current administrations answer to these problems...”just wait, just wait”. I’m tired of waiting for more poorly managed school projects and a train station that was approved during the Metsopoulos administration to break ground. We need action now; Fairfield needs John Nelson and Ralph Bowley.
Sincerely,
Michael E. Hahn
